TRAINER’S HANDBOOK ON SUSTAINABLE WATER USE

BEST-U project promotes the innovative technologies in order to improve the protection of the environment and the efficient use of water resources and soil protection. It is co-financed by the Interreg V-A Cooperation Programme Greece – Bulgaria 2014-2020, which is a cross-border cooperation Programme co-funded by the European Union under the European Regional Development Fund.

BEST-U project will promote the cross-border cooperation by bringing together the different actors of the cross-border area, in order to strengthen the development of the region and its transformation into a centre for sustainable development.

The aim of this manual is to be used as a tool by teachers and educators, in terms of "WATER". More specifically, kindergarten teachers and Primary and Secondary education teachers will benefit from the use of this in the design and implementation of relevant environmental educational interventions.

The purpose of the educational material is to offer useful knowledge, individual instructions, but also additional material, in order to enrich the teaching process.

The teaching material is appropriately designed to:

  • Promote active learning, considering water as a central theme in a structured pedagogical context

  • Provide the ability to connect the specific object with many issues critical to water management

  • Facilitate trainers to organize activities and introduce new topics related to water.

In general, it aims to develop the ability of children to "learn how to learn" during their lifetime, through the continuous acquisition of knowledge and skills. This, after all, is one of the main and long-term goals of Environmental Education.

In particular, the main objectives of the educational material are to provide learners with knowledge and understanding and to help them develop assimilation and compliance skills. Assimilation is the process by which new information is incorporated into pre-existing knowledge structures. Compliance is the process by which knowledge structures are modified to adapt to new situations.
