A few words about the project
According to recent publications by Cedefop, the EU is still far from attaining its benchmark of 15% adult participation in learning. In addition, the economic and financial crisis the EU has faced since COVID-19 has led to increased unemployment rates in the member states. Europe must therefore improve and maintain high-level skills and competences in order to remain competitive and innovative and to restore losses after COVID-19.
It is essential to recognise that upskilling and reskilling are much needed, not only so that people can enter and progress in the labour market but also so that they can achieve their full potential and play an active role in society. According to estimates, upskilling the EU-28 adult population would lead to an average yearly gain of EUR 200 billion over the ten-year period between 2020 and 2030. It is of great importance for the EU not to underestimate the real economic and social costs of low skills in Europe.
Rapidly changing labour markets and multiple challenges — digitalisation and its consequences for the future of work, technological change, the environment, ageing societies and social inclusion — require not only strong foundation skills but also the constant updating and acquisition of new ones. The following needs have therefore been identified:
For the partnership as a whole and for the experts and tutors involved:
- To upgrade their services and the training they offer by including innovative approaches to reaching their target groups, providing more attractive education and training programmes that take account of individual needs, level of knowledge and competences;
- To make use of innovative methodologies that draw every participant into the learning process, engage their attention and help them absorb the material more easily;
- To develop new or improved practices that meet the needs of target groups with fewer opportunities;
- To introduce new approaches with a long-term impact on trainees, leading to individual success in learning, professional development and growth;
- To strengthen cooperation with partners from other countries, other fields of activity and other socio-economic sectors;
- To raise awareness of the role of emotional intelligence in individual success in learning, professional and personal life.
For the trainees as a whole:
- To increase their competences in different fields, such as languages, digital competences and entrepreneurship;
- To increase their opportunities for professional development;
- To improve their employability and adaptation to the labour market by increasing their competences and knowledge;
- To better understand the connections between formal and non-formal education and the requirements and needs of the labour market.
